Forgiveness is defined as overcoming negative feelings in response to the perception of being harmed by another person(s). The capacity to forgive applies to the ability to forgive oneself and others. A recent pilot study on a nationally representative sample of adolescents found that forgiving adolescents are less likely to get into fights, smoke, or report depressive symptoms and more likely to get good grades; (Lippman et al. forthcoming).
