The CIRCLE Civic Engagement Quiz is a tool for the evaluation of young people’s 21st century skills of civic engagement as compared to a national sample. The quiz is focused on respondents’ civics behavior (as opposed to their knowledge). The quiz asks about the character and frequency of the test-taker’s participation in civic activities, such as writing letters-to-the-editor, voting, political activism or volunteering.

Teachers or program leaders administering the quiz may then use the results to categorize respondents’ civic engagement within CIRCLE’s “Typology of Engagement” (civic activities, electoral activities, political voice activities) and to classify each respondent as “Disengaged,” an “Electoral Specialist,” a “Civic Specialist,” or a “Dual Activist.” (Written by Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement).
